Trader Joe’s Maple Chicken Breakfast Sausage Review

Published: Sep 6, 2025 by Tatiana · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Trader Joe’s Maple Chicken Breakfast Sausage is one of those quick freezer staples I reach for when I need protein in the morning but don’t want to cook from scratch. They’re fully cooked, heat up fast, and bring just enough maple sweetness to make breakfast feel special.

What’s in the Package

You get a pack of chicken sausage links that are already cooked and ready to heat. Each serving is two links, with about 90 calories and 10 grams of protein—leaner than pork sausage but still filling.

Preparation (Heating)

You can microwave these in under two minutes, or pan-fry for a few minutes if you want extra browning. I prefer the skillet method—it gives the sausages a nice caramelized edge and keeps them from tasting too plain. Just be careful not to overcook, since chicken sausage can dry out quickly.

Taste and Texture

The flavor is mild but pleasant. There’s a hint of maple sweetness, enough to notice but not overpowering, and it pairs really well with pancakes or eggs. The texture is smooth, more like finely ground meat, without the snap you’d expect from pork sausage. It’s soft and not greasy, which makes it kid-friendly but maybe less satisfying if you want a hearty bite.

My Honest Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Very quick and easy to heat
  • Leaner than pork sausage with good protein
  • Sweet-savory flavor works well for breakfast
  • Not greasy

Cons:

  • Texture is soft, no “sausage snap”
  • Sweetness won’t fit every breakfast plate
  • Can dry out if overcooked

Final Verdict

This is a convenient, lean option for busy mornings. It’s not trying to compete with classic pork sausage—it’s lighter, sweeter, and simple. If you want something fast with a good amount of protein, these do the job. I’d give them 8 out of 10.
