Trader Joe's Minty Flavored Cocoa Truffles are holiday chocolates that aim to combine the richness of chocolate with a minty kick, finished with crunchy sugar pearls. They're pretty, festive, and fun to try-but for me, the flavor balance missed on the mint side.

Ingredients & what's in the box
The truffles are made of a mix: chocolate (with cocoa processed with alkalinity), sugar, whey powder from milk, and several types of vegetable oils (coconut, palm kernel, palm). They have a mint flavor added, along with natural flavoring and emulsifiers.
Then there are sugar pearls (coated sugar with palm oil and coloring) for crunch. They also include milk and may have contact with nuts in processing. So while they are chocolatey and creamy, they also lean sweet and include richer fats.
Flavor profile
The chocolate part is smooth and does what you expect-rich, warm, somewhat indulgent. The mint flavor is present but tends to take over more than I prefer, giving a sharper aftertaste rather than a gentle refresh.
The sugar pearls deliver crunch, so the mouthfeel is interesting. For me, though, after a few truffles, the sweetness plus mint starts to feel heavy.

How I like to eat them
I tried these after dinner with a mug of herbal tea-not something bitter, but something mild. I ate one or two to satisfy a chocolate craving, especially when I wanted something sweet but not super complex.
The crunch from the pearls is a nice texture contrast. I also shared one with someone who prefers strong minty flavors-they enjoyed the mint intensity more than I did.
Swap-name idea
Let's call this section "Flavor contrast I noticed" instead of comparing to their plain truffles. Between the chocolate base (rich and creamy) and the mint plus sugar pearls (sweet + crunchy), there's a contrast that's bold. If the mint had been gentler or if the chocolate had been more bittersweet, it might've balanced better for me.

Would I buy again?
No-I probably won't. I liked the visual cuteness, the texture, and the idea, but the flavor combo didn't match what I go for regularly. It feels more like a seasonal novelty than a go-to treat.
Similar products & chocolates
Here are a few other Trader Joe's chocolate items that resemble or contrast with these truffles:
- Milk Chocolate Bar with Corn Flakes - the crunch + milk chocolate is super comforting
- Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Coffee Buzz Bar
- Trader Joe's Cocoa Truffles - simpler, clean chocolate flavor without mint; if you like chocolate but prefer less flavor complexity.
- Very Berry Granola - not strictly a chocolate product, but adding chocolatey bits (or mixing with mild chocolates) shows how you often prefer more balanced sweetness rather than mint-forward treats.

Final thoughts
These truffles are decorative, fun, and great for the holiday season if you love mint and sweets. But for my taste, the mint was too strong and the sweetness too dominant. If your sweet tooth leans toward bold minty chocolate, you'll probably like them more than I did. I'm rating Trader Joe's Minty Flavored Cocoa Truffles 3 out of 5 stars.
