I picked this one up on a total whim while waiting in line—Trader Joe’s really knows how to get you with that end-cap candy display. The Organic Single Origin 72% Dark Chocolate with Vanilla Bean sounded a little fancy but also pretty irresistible. I figured I’d stash it in the pantry for those “I just need a piece of good chocolate” moments. Spoiler: I did not stash it. I ate it. All of it.

Taste and Texture
This chocolate is smooth, not too bitter, and has that deep, almost fruity dark chocolate flavor that you only get with higher-quality bars. The little flakes of real vanilla bean give it a nice mellow sweetness without making it taste artificial.
It melts beautifully and doesn’t have that waxy coating some cheaper bars do. My daughter tried a bite and immediately asked for her own square—then took three more. So, yeah. It’s family-approved.
Preparation
Nothing to prep here—just break off a square and enjoy it. I did try melting a few pieces to drizzle over strawberries (a little Valentine’s treat situation) and it worked really well. No graininess, just smooth, rich chocolate. Also worked great grated on top of vanilla ice cream!

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Real vanilla bean = lovely flavor twist
- Organic and single origin—great quality
- Not too sweet, not too bitter
- Great for snacking or baking
Cons:
- Not super cheap for the size, but worth it
Location in Store
I found it in the candy/chocolate section near the registers. Just right next to Trader Joe’s Milk Chocolate Bar with Corn Flakes.

Final Verdict
This is one of the best Trader Joe’s dark chocolate bars I’ve tried—and I’ve tried more than I should probably admit. The vanilla bean makes it feel a little fancy, and it’s perfect for those moments when you want something indulgent without diving into a whole dessert. I’ll definitely buy this again.
