I really didn't know what blonde chocolate was before I picked this up. The golden wrapper caught my eye, I tossed it in the cart on a whim, and now I'm buying two at a time. That's the Trader Joe's effect, and this bar is a perfect example of it.

So what even is it?
It's TJ's first-ever blonde chocolate bar, made in Italy by a family chocolate maker. Think of it as white chocolate that got slowly toasted and caramelized - the result is this warm, golden, almost toffee-like flavor with sugar cookie crumbles mixed in.
It sounds fancy but it tastes completely approachable. There are 30 small squares in the bar, which makes it easy to break off a little at a time - or a lot at a time, again no judgment.
What it tastes like
Creamy and rich, with caramel front and center and a little crunch from the cookie bits. It melts quickly, which I love. It's pretty sweet - this isn't a subtle bar - so I'd recommend having something to drink alongside it.

A cup of coffee or black tea makes a huge difference here. The bitterness cuts through the sweetness and suddenly the caramel flavor gets even more interesting. I've also tried it after dinner with a small glass of red wine and it worked surprisingly well.
One square feels indulgent. Two squares and you're deep in it. Three squares and you're staring at the rest of the bar asking yourself difficult questions. We split one bar between three people- me and the kids.

A few things worth knowing
The bar went through 25 rounds of tasting panels before TJ's was happy with it, which honestly shows. This didn't happen by accident. It also comes in at under $3, which is genuinely impressive for something crafted in Italy. Grab more than one when you see it - TJ's has a habit of quietly discontinuing the products people love most.
Would I buy again?
Already did. This is a new regular. If you're even a little curious, just buy it. You won't regret it.
