Every month we make a TJ's run and every month the same things end up in the cart. Not out of habit - because they're genuinely good enough to keep buying. These seven have earned a permanent place on our list.

This isn't a list of things we liked once. It's the list of things that pass the real test: we finished them and immediately put them back on the list for next time.
1. Unexpected Cheddar Cheese - the one we never run out of on purpose
⚠️ Not yet reviewed on tradereats.com - review coming soon.
Every time we finish a block of Unexpected Cheddar, we regret not buying two. It's sharp, crystalline, and has a complexity that punches well above its price point - closer to an aged parmesan in character than a typical grocery store cheddar. It melts beautifully, snacks beautifully, and makes anything it touches taste more considered.
We put this on the list because it's the one cheese we never skip. It's been in our fridge almost continuously for longer than we can remember.
- Sharp, crystalline texture - develops like an aged cheese
- Works melted (grilled cheese, mac) or as a snacking/board cheese
- Buy two - you will finish the first one faster than you expect
2. Smoked Steelhead Trout - the protein we always have in the fridge

✅ Reviewed on tradereats.com - read the full review
Thirteen grams of protein per serving, no cooking required, and one of the most consistently good products in the refrigerated section. The thick-cut pieces are genuinely filling and the mild smoky flavor works at any time of day - breakfast with eggs, lunch on crackers, or a quick snack straight from the package.
We've never opened this and been disappointed. It's one of a small number of products at TJ's where the quality is completely consistent every single time.
- 13g protein per serving, 0g carbs
- Thick-cut, genuinely filling - not just a topping

3. Sliced Prosciutto - the fridge staple that makes everything better

✅ Reviewed on tradereats.com - read the full review
Two ingredients: pork and salt. Aged 10-12 months. Four ounces for $3.99. This is one of the best value items in the whole store. We eat it wrapped around cheese, layered on crackers, crisped in a pan over eggs, or straight from the package. It goes with everything and the quality is noticeably good.
The saltiness is assertive - this is what prosciutto is supposed to taste like. It keeps well in the fridge and we go through it fast enough that it never sits around long anyway.
- Two ingredients only: pork and salt
- $3.99 for 4oz - one of the best values in the refrigerated section

4. Mandarin Orange Chicken - the freezer dinner we always have as backup
⚠️ Not yet reviewed on tradereats.com - review coming soon.
We keep at least one bag of Mandarin Orange Chicken in the freezer at all times. Not because it's the most exciting thing we eat, but because it's consistently good, comes together in 20 minutes, and is the dinner everyone in the house will actually eat. That's a short list.
Air fry at 400°F for 8-10 minutes for the best crispiness, add the sauce, serve over rice. Done. The Mandarin Orange Chicken earns its cult status - it's been on this list longer than anything else.
- Air fryer gives significantly better crispiness than the oven
- Sauce packet separate - control how much you use
- The most reliable crowd-pleaser in the freezer section
5. Dark Chocolate Sticks with Crispy Rice - the treat we never let run out

✅ Reviewed on tradereats.com - read the full review
Good dark chocolate, individually portioned, with crispy rice that adds texture to every bite. These live in the snack drawer and get replaced more often than anything else we buy. The chocolate quality is actually good - not just sweet coating - and the crispy rice makes them more interesting than plain chocolate.
We reviewed these and have bought them on every TJ's run since. The portion size is right and they're satisfying enough that two or three pieces does the job.
- Individually portioned - easy to grab one or two without committing to a bowl
- Good dark chocolate quality, not just sweet coating

6. Everything But the Bagel Seasoning - the pantry item that earns its place every week
⚠️ Not yet reviewed on tradereats.com - review coming soon.
This is the item that quietly makes other things better. We go through a jar of EBTB seasoning every few weeks because it goes on eggs in the morning, on cottage cheese at lunch, on avocado toast, on roasted vegetables, on popcorn. It's one of the most versatile condiments you can keep in the kitchen.
TJ's version is the original and still the best value. If you're not keeping this stocked regularly, start - you'll quickly wonder how you went without it.
- Goes on eggs, avocado, cheese, vegetables, popcorn - the list is long
- Original TJ's blend - the version that made it famous
- One of the best cost-per-use items in the whole store
7. Irish Potato Chips - the chip we always keep in the snack drawer

✅ Reviewed on tradereats.com - read the full review
Garlic butter flavored, thick-cut, and somehow better than they have any right to be. The seasoning tastes like actual butter and garlic, not a chemical version of it. The chips have a proper crunch. We reviewed these and the bag was half gone before we finished writing the notes. They've been a monthly rebuy ever since.
- Thick cut - satisfying crunch, not a thin crisp
- Garlic butter flavor tastes like the real thing
